Quo Vadis Coaching?
by Jens Casten
Over the last two years I have been hearing that Coaching is dying, the business has no future, there are too many Coaches, there are not enough clients and the list goes on. I have to say that I couldn't disagree more, the Coaching Business is alive and kicking. In the U.S.A. alone, 1.5 Million people are searching for Coaches on Google, the majority for Life-, or Business Coaches. Coaching is actually exploding! More than 2 BILLION dollars is spent on professional coaching every year. Most coaches expect to increase their fees, clients, and revenue in 2017.
The spectrum of Coaching as been broadened tremendously over the last 10 years and there isn't an area of life that is not covered by Coaches.
Coaching has become one of the most diverse professions out there and the popularity of Coaching has been a blessing and a curse. Unfortunately many people jumped on the band wagon and thought that, since they've given advice to a family member, or friend, they would make great Coaches and get into the business, without proper education and certification. These unqualified "Coaches" give our profession a bad reputation and it is time for qualified Coaches to speak up and make sure that people are aware and ask Coaches for there qualifications. It is important for Coaching Clients to be able to make an educated decision, when they choose a Coach, it saves them a lot of time and money.
The reason why the Coaching industry is still growing is very simple, it works! When the Coaching Client is committed and sticks to the plan, the sky is the limit. If you are considering working with a Coach, make sure that you receive a free consult, to be able to decide if it is a good fit and there is a connection. Not every Coach/Client relationship is a fit, but when the Coach offers a free consult, the client has the chance to make the right decision.
In Summary, Coaching is anything but dead, it's going to be around for a very long time and, to be honest, we all could use a Coach!
